Doom-and-gloom economic reports may be making headlines, but Burlington, Ontario is telling a different, more uplifting story. Continued growth in four main industries – financial services, manufacturing, software development and metal fabrication – is keeping the Burlington economy diversified and stable. A survey of local businesses found that a majority will be hiring or avoid layoffs in 2009.

Burlington has been transformed into an attractive destination for businesses and travelers through numerous revitalization projects including Burlington's Downtown Waterfront, the expanded Art Centre and soon-to-be completed Brant Street Pier. Nearby Lake Ontario and the Niagara Escarpment offer cost-effective alternatives for corporate retreats. In addition, businesses relocating or expanding to Ontario enjoy low employment costs and some of the lowest corporate tax rates in North America.
